Highly expressive, sophisticated and primitive, these objects simultaneously conceal and reveal. They are the ultimate in reality and fantasy. The freedom of forms and coloring awakened Ensrud’s desire to integrate these fascinating items on to canvases to create a more dynamic mystical essence.

MEDITATIONS

This series of artworks were inspired by exotic and common Asian objects: palm nets, seashells, sea anemones, stones, lacquer boxes, fabrics, rice paper, tiles, wooden sake vessels, carved wood items and decorative objects. These normally incompatible objects are integrated into cohesive harmonious compositions to reflect the calm and peace of gardens. Ensrud views painting as meditation: an energy phenomenon which is an adventure into the unknown depths of imagination to achieve the bliss of balance.
