With a career spanning over six decades, WAYNE ENSRUD has created unique artworks expressing harmony, radiance and beauty. Expanding the possibilities of painting, he masterly bridges the aesthetics of the 20th and 21st centuries through his skillful use of color, emotional tensions and uninhibited creative imagination. His subject matter varies as his moods whether he is painting a landscape, a portrait, an impression of a place or an abstraction to convey something he feels. Although classically trained, he often employs an unorthodox paint application and abandons traditional forms to create innovative paintings refreshingly rich with color, luminosity and texture.
Privately mentored for over 25 years by the great Austrian Expressionist artist, OSKAR KOKOSCHKA, Ensrud developed a sense to make a canvas ‘come alive’, to pulsate with vitality. This aspect above all else characterizes Ensrud’s art which is not contrived or dictated by commercial forces but rather his own creative intuition.
Wayne Ensrud persists in probing. Just as it seems he pushes a style as far as it can go, he often returns to it a decade later to produce another innovative series within that style. He applies a boundless vision matched by a fastidious approach in execution to create visual leaps.
